Depending on how often program assessments are taken and the criteria used, results in levels and scales may adjust slightly at various times. Rows in this chart do not represent a direct correlation. Use the grade level range column to approximate expected lexile levels, fountas & pinnell levels, or atos levels within a grade level range.
Data for these national student norms came from a sample of over 3 million students across the united states and the virgin islands who were administered tests that reported lexile measures from 2010 to 2019. This conversion chart is based on educational levels from the published lexile framework chart. Lexile=500ln(grade level) or, the counterpart gradelevel=e0. 002(lexile) Below is a conversion guide from lexile range to their equivalent fountas and pinnell level. These two systems (lexile and f&p) have fundamental differences in how they rate texts, so this chart is meant to serve only as a guide.
